Trump Presidency and Current US News

Post by Admin on Wed Jun 21, 2017 10:55 am

Hi All:

This is the general US news and Trump Thread. I figured we could post under here on those topics if you like. There is nothing wrong with continuing to post unrelated topics on the one general thread, but I figured a bit more organization would help us if we add more people OR in reviewing past threads, since it is starting to be a lot of pages.

So the transgender military ban. Most people are against this, some people are arguing blindly for it, maintaining that we don't want to pay for sex change operations and medically it would be too expensive and transgendered people are mentally ill and mentally ill people cannot serve in the military blah blah blah.

In a more general tone I have noticed America and the world splitting into this great divide not only of viewpoints and principles but of action. There are so many steps forward and steps backwards, London elects a Muslim mayor, the Muslim ban is implemented. India elects an "untouchable" president, we elect Trump. Sexism and attacks on women thrive, but some places are mandating equal pay for females and the feminist movement (the sane one) is thriving and moving forward. One state orders women to pay for funerals for their aborted fetuses, another makes it mandatory for private insurance to provide abortions to their patients. Transgenders cannot serve in the military, but I see more and more support for the transgendered community in the world than ever before with every inclusive bathroom sign I pass.

I feel so conflicted with all these changing events that I don't know if I should be hopeful for the future or if I should scream and jump off a cliff. Does anyone else feel like they're being pulled in every direction?

I feel like we've become polarized as a nation. The palpable shock between going from central Florida (which although has a strong hold out of liberal thinking is dominated by conservatism) to Seattle brought it home for me. It was a breath of fresh air to be somewhere more enlightened.

I don't know what to think or do anymore. It does not seem to matter how or what Trump does, and this strong core of bigoted, blinded, thoughtless followers does not care. It is sickening, but not surprising, to me that the religious "moral majority" jumped on the Trump train.

Everyone says now is a more important time than ever to be involved in politics, but if this is the reality, then I feel increasingly hopeless and apathetic of anything fundamentally changing.

I don't even know what to say anymore. It has just gotten to the point where calling this insane does not do justice to the situation.

The Transgender Ban, which like you both indicate, will not upset our lovely 'moral majority,' and now I am even almost feeling sorry for a politician I loath (Sessions).

I am sick. Damn sick of everyone and everything.

You are not alone. I've been discussing, debating, informing and arguing for the better part of the past 8 months+.

What he said about transgendered is not codified, it's not law, it won't "happen" until the military branches make it happen. There are over 4,000 active transgendered members of the armed forces serving honorably. We spend more on VIAGRA than on the meds a person transitioning needs. And who said a person wanting to transition would WANT the US Gov't up in their business and paying for it? My nephew paid for his surgeries himself and will continue to pay for them until his transition is complete (f-m). He wants to serve. He's tried to enlist. He's been denied for his weight but there was the underlier of his gender reassignment.

I am fed up with this religious right shoving their beliefs down everyone's throat and expecting us to swallow it, hook, line and sinker. And "they" say we Muslims are trying to take over ... it's bullshit. Sad

All of this explains why I've been so horribly bipolar. My depressions are horrible lately and my mania is reaching new heights. And on that note, I'm calling my insurance to get a new dr. I have issues that need "handling" and sitting here procrastinating isn't getting anything done.

I'll join you in the "fed up with humanity" club.

Hope you get into see the Doctor soon, Dee. I think we all get some mania naturally when stressed and overwhelmed. Just don't end up like Laura's assistant. Jk.

It is disgusting. The entire country is disgusting. We never should have let a part of our society get so dangerously liberal with the truth.

Well i guess that answers my question...I think the point I was trying to make was that there are extremely positive things happening in the world as well right now, and it feels more like an emotional rollercoaster going back and forth between the ups and downs of this social climate. I'm not totally fed up with humanity, I have hope, then my hopes are dashed, and then they're built up again. There is some good happening out there but I'm finding it hard to balance with the bad things.

I think everyone else was like 'all hope is lost.' Maybe life is more optimistic in California?

Maybe we need a new direction on here to stimulate us?

What is the greatest obstacle and most important goal everyone is working towards right now?

What's everyone doing tonight and this weekend?

Health and money are my obstacles right now. The 3rd is coming. Payday!

As far as I know, nothing this weekend. Just trying to get through the next few days. My daughter's car broke down so she slung us some gas money to get her to work. I really HATE taking any money from her but the tank was on fumes. They were on their way to a comicon in Grand Rapids when the fuel pump went out. On the interstate. AT the exit they needed. Cost them $250 to get it towed 85 miles - WITH AAA - to their mechanic in North Muskegon. Originally they wanted $350! So I really felt bad needing gas money at that point. It just so happens that her husband's job ended last week. He's applying at her shop, and his interview went really well, but no paycheck for him for a few weeks. They seem to take one step forward and 3 back with that car. Sad

I do have my friend Bambi planning to come up here on Sunday with Goliath. So I'll get to see my fellow long haired sister and her HUGE baby. She said he's quite depressed without Ruby and she's considering adopting another Great Dane from a local shelter. I hope she does.

I'm just waiting for the next firestorm 45 puts into effect.

His staff changes are terrifying me even more.

My goals although probably in different ways also revolve around time (not enough of it); money (long term financial goals so I don' have to spend 60 plus hours working at the law firm to keep Zoe's long term financial future guaranteed). I need more time to spend with Zoe. It bothers me. Final goal is publishing a couple of novels I wrote.

We're at an extended stay (North Florida) out of town this weekend for Steven's job.

So both Dee and Laura have money as a goal. Makes sense. Also one of my goals but more how I make money. I hate feeling stuck in the rat race as having to admit I am leading a mediocre life. At the same time, with everything going on in the world, mediocre is nothing to be sad about.

I would also like to have deeper and more genuine relationships with peopl. I feel very shut out of everything right now.

Keeping my family safe and provided for is still most important continuing goal.

Novels, Laura? You are a writer now? Wha is going on in North Florida?
