What Causes Stalking? Dedicated to the crazy exes and the dedicated stalkers that make the 2nd Amendment seem like a good idea

So really I think Laura's posts over last five weeks about Agent M, suggest Agent M and the sidekick are stalkers. Having been stalked at least once in the past, I have to ask, what makes them tick? What can be done?

Jae, curious as to your thoughts on this since I have nothing better to do than stalk the internet for articles on stalking...you can tell I have been holed up too long:

Demographic, clinical, and forensic data were gathered in an archival study of 82 female stalkers from the United States, Canada, and Australia. Female stalkers were predominantly single, heterosexual, educated individuals in their mid 30s who had pursued their victims for more than a year. Major mental disorder and personality disorder were suggested, especially borderline personality disorder. They usually threatened violence, and if they did threaten, were more likely to be violent. Frequency of interpersonal violence was 25 percent, but there was limited use of weapons, and injuries were minor. Stalking victims were most likely to be slightly older male acquaintances; but if the victim was a prior sexual intimate of the female stalker, her risk of being violent toward him exceeded 50 percent. Unlike male stalkers who often pursue their victims to restore intimacy, these female stalkers often pursued their victims to establish intimacy. Common emotions and motivations included anger, obsessional thoughts, rage at abandonment, loneliness, dependency, jealousy, and perceived betrayal. Results are interpreted from a clinical and risk management perspective.

I am curious specifically as to female stalkers since Laura's situation has brought it up as a case study. Her scenario is striking to me because we have two female stalkers if I am getting the facts right. One has been fired and been disgruntled for a while. The other apparently had a close relationship in the work context and went off her meds. Since neither presents as a romantic stalker, are the definitions and understanding of stalking simply too narrow?

I see obsessive, personality disorders, substance abuse, and the age range all fit this Melissa character. Also, notable was "perceived betrayal."

This is an older article but seemed accurate to me if Laura or anyone wants more info on the psychology of stalking.

This whole thing with the stalking has gotten depressing. I have to admit I feel like there was something wrong in me that they subconsciously fed off to get to this point.

How is storm in your place? Assuming you still have power?
